India have 125 points, ahead of South Africa who have 120 points.
It sets up an enthralling two-Test series between the two top-ranked teams, starting in Nagpur from February 6, with India trying to defend their No.1 ranking, while South Africa aim to regain it.
South Africa need to win the series to become No.1. However, they will slip behind Australia to third position if India win both the Tests.
The series win in Bangladesh has resulted in Sachin Tendulkar returning to the top 10 Batsmen list for the first time since December 2005.
Sachin Tendulkar climbed to 9th position after scoring two centuries in the recent test series. Besides Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid too moved up the order. He has jumped four places to occupy the 15th position on the back of his century in the 2nd test.
However, VVS Laxman has dropped four places to 19th spot after missing out on the second Test due to injury.Among others, Gautam Gambhir maintains the top sport while Virender Sehwag holds on to his sixth position.
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has also moved up the rankings,climbing 13 places to the 42nd spot after he scored 151 in the 2nd innings of the 2nd test.
In the bowlers' category, Zaheer has become India's highest-ranked bowler in sixth position.He jumped five places after recording his maiden 10-wicket haul in the Mirpur Test to win the man-of-the-match award. Harbhajan Singh, however, has slipped two places to eighth position after managing just two wickets in the entire series
